The Sudan Platform for Agriculture and Food Security (SPAFS) is a nonprofit combating poverty through sustainable farming, education, and emergency food relief across Sudan.
Our Mission
SPAFS works to address Sudan's acute food crisis by promoting sustainable agricultural methods that reduce poverty and enhance food security for vulnerable populations — particularly during periods of conflict.
We believe that lasting change requires both immediate humanitarian response and long-term investment in local capacity. That's why we combine emergency Takaya (community kitchen) support with training programs, microfinance, and agricultural assistance that build resilience over time.
Our work is grounded in deep respect for local communities, their knowledge, and their agency. We partner with grassroots organizers — not as recipients, but as leaders — to design and deliver programs that work.

Our Team
Dr. Inaam Saad
Dr. Inaam Saad's work spans agricultural and environmental chemistry research along with expertise in language acquisition. Her previous positions include roles at North Carolina State University's Sustainable Farming Center and the University of Malaya's Environmental Research Institute. She also worked as an Assistant Professor at Sudan's Agricultural Research Corporation.
Dr. Saad holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry and a Master's degree in Agricultural Chemistry from the University of Khartoum. Her deep expertise in both Sudanese agriculture and international research makes her uniquely positioned to lead SPAFS's mission.
The Crisis We're Responding To
Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a devastating armed conflict. Agricultural systems have collapsed, markets have closed, and millions of families have been displaced from their homes and livelihoods.
According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), over 6 million people face famine-level conditions and more than 20 million are experiencing acute food insecurity — roughly 13% of Sudan's population. The agricultural season is critical: missing it means deeper hunger in the months and years ahead.
