About our platform

Boosting Support for Sudan's Food Security and Farming

SPAFS focuses on strengthening support for Sudanese smallholder farmers by addressing food crises and the needs of various food commodities, especially during wartime.

We aim to mitigate the effects of disruptions in the food processing system on Sudan's food supply.

The Urgency of Our Mission

Recent analysis from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) reveals that over six million people in Sudan, approximately 13% of the population, are on the brink of famine. Over 20 million people across the country face acute food insecurity due to conflicts, economic decline, and mass displacement.

In Sudan, agriculture is a lifeline. As the main agricultural season commences, urgent action is required to prevent further deterioration of the food security situation and to save lives and livelihoods. This crucial work cannot be sustained without timely resources.

Our Projects

  • Training Workshops

The training and capacity-building programs of the Sudan Platform for Agriculture and Food Security focus on empowering farmers, women, and local communities through practical and sustainable development initiatives. SPAFS provides specialized training for farmers in modern agricultural practices, technical farming operations, crop management, and agricultural marketing to help improve productivity and strengthen food security. In addition, the platform offers entrepreneurship and small-business training for women who receive microfinance support, equipping them with the skills needed to manage and grow sustainable income-generating projects. Through these programs, SPAFS aims to build self-reliance, create economic opportunities, and support communities affected by conflict and displacement across Sudan.

    Microfinance Programs

The microfinance programs of the Sudan Platform for Agriculture and Food Security are designed to empower women and vulnerable families by providing small seed funding to start income-generating activities and community-based businesses. These programs focus on creating sustainable livelihoods through a revolving support model that encourages self-reliance, economic independence, and community solidarity. Alongside financial assistance, beneficiaries receive training in small-business management, budgeting, marketing, and project development to help ensure the long-term success of their initiatives. SPAFS microfinance initiatives particularly support communities affected by war, displacement, and economic hardship, helping families rebuild stability and create new opportunities for the future.

  • Agricultural Support

The agricultural support programs of the Sudan Platform for Agriculture and Food Security focus on helping small farmers restore and strengthen their agricultural production despite the challenges caused by war, displacement, and economic instability. SPAFS provides farmers with essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, tools, irrigation support, and technical guidance, in addition to training in sustainable farming practices and modern agricultural techniques. These programs aim to improve food production, increase farmers’ incomes, and enhance long-term food security for local communities. By supporting small-scale farmers, SPAFS seeks to empower rural families, preserve agricultural livelihoods, and contribute to community resilience and economic recovery across Sudan.

    Community Kitchens (Takaya Support)

The community kitchens (Takaya) programs of the Sudan Platform for Agriculture and Food Security provide emergency food support to displaced families, vulnerable communities, and individuals affected by war and economic hardship across Sudan. These community-led initiatives operate through local volunteers who prepare and distribute daily meals in areas facing severe food insecurity. Beyond immediate hunger relief, the Takaya programs serve as centers of solidarity and social support, bringing communities together during times of crisis.
