About This Initiative
Qadah Al-Haban is a refugee-led humanitarian initiative established by a group of Sudanese refugees at Aftit Refugee Camp in Ethiopia. It provides immediate relief through a free community kitchen — essential food, nutrition, clothing, and other basic necessities, with particular attention to widows, orphans, and the most vulnerable families — and supports longer-term resilience through small-scale livelihood programs.
The initiative began during a humanitarian crisis at Aftit camp, after Sudanese refugees were relocated from Komer camp due to security instability and humanitarian access was severely restricted for over two months. To avoid overcrowding and preserve the dignity of beneficiaries, the team distributes meals directly within shelters. SPAFS is the initiative's primary supporter, funding monthly community meals, clothing and milk distribution for children, and small income-generating projects for widows and women caring for orphans.
Who Runs It
Founded by a team of Sudanese refugees led by Abdulaziz Al-Daqil together with co-founders Fawaz Ahmed, Al-Hadi Ismail, Mahasin Al-Tahir, Babiker Mohamed Adam, Hanan Ibrahim, Al-Tijani Musa, Siddig Al-Sayed, and Siddig Al-Daw. Early support from diaspora partners, including Moawia Mohamedin, enabled the first meal distribution, and a partnership with SPAFS in the United States has sustained its operations since.
